Get your tropical fix and spot celebrities galore at these exotic summer vacation destinations.
Ibiza What’s the draw?For celebrities and models, or the Europeans who just look like them, Ibiza, on an island off the coast of Spain, is the ultimate summer party town. With the emphasis on staying up late to catch libations and beats (as opposed to waking up early to catch sun and waves), it’s not a place for the faint of heart— which is why Hollywood’s most notorious party people make it their August home away from home.
Who’s a regular? Kate Moss (no stranger to late nights) makes
it a point to stop by nearly every year. Sean Combs and Mick Jagger, too. Spanish celebs like Penélope Cruz and Pedro Almodóvar take advantage of the short commute from Madrid to visit regularly
What are the hot spots? The legendary club Pacha (which has started opening outposts worldwide) is the main celebrity magnet (34-971-19-10- 00). But Space’s (34971-39-67-93) 24-hour Sunday dance marathons are also unlike any you’ve ever experienced, and Manumission Club (34-971-19- 81-60), well, it’s the biggest club in the world.
The South of France has been drawing the rich and famous for more than a century. Glamorous and gorgeous, Saint-Tropez itself has the additional allure of sophistication and exclusivity. The only party destinations more sought after (and harder to get into) than its famous clubs are the private megayachts that moor just offshore.
Who’s a regular? For all its nude beaches and exotic parties, Saint-Tropez can be couples central: Rande Gerber and Cindy Crawford moor their yacht there, as do Jay-Z and Beyoncé. Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, David Furnish and Elton John, and Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony all stop by. Kid Rock and Pamela Anderson had one of their weddings on a boat in the harbor.
What are the hot spots? The party starts and lasts all day at Club 55 (33-04-94-55-55-55) on Pampelonne Beach—one just needs to decide whether to arrive by helicopter or by yacht. For a bite, try Sénéquier (33-04-94-97-00-90) and Le Gorille (33-04-94-97-03-93), and for a nap (let’s face it, you’re not getting a whole night’s sleep— that’s what the beach is for), follow the celebrities to the fabulous Hotel Byblos (33-04-94-56-68-00;
byblos.com).
With its French sensibility, relaxed Caribbean vibe and nearly two dozen pristine beaches, the tiny island is dotted with posh hotels, boutiques and private villas. And the party scene isn’t so bad, either.
Who’s a regular? David Letterman, Sean Combs, Kimora Lee Simmons, Ron Perelman, Beyoncé and Jay-Z.
What are the hot spots? Maya’s (05-90-27- 75-73) and La Mandala (05-90-27-96-96) are hot for dinner and views of the harbor. While you’re watching the sunset, check out the main dock in Gustavia, where all the big yachts are moored. Later at night, head to Nikki Beach. That’s where everyone famous will be going—not that you’ll necessarily see them outside of the VIP areas. If you want to lay your head down near the stars, try the Eden Rock (05-90-29-79-99; edenrockhotel.com).
At the tip of the Baja Peninsula in Mexico, Cabo San Lucas feels both isolated and accessible from Los Angeles. With its slender beaches, dramatic rugged cliffs and romantic resorts, you’re bound to run into a celebrity—or maybe the future love of your life.
Who’s a regular? Brad Pitt, Britney Spears, Teri Hatcher, Matthew McConaughey, Leonardo DiCaprio and Bar Rafaeli. Jessica Simpson celebrated her divorce from Nick Lachey with friends there, and later took boyfriends Tony Romo and John Mayer for sexy getaways. Lachey was first
spotted together with his new flame Vanessa Minnillo there.
What are the hot spots? For honeymoons and intimate weddings, The One&Only (52-624-146-7000; oneandonlyresorts.com) is the top choice. That’s where Eli Manning married his college sweetheart Abby McGrew on the beach. While the nightlife in Cabo isn’t as wild as otherspots in Mexico, Sammy Hagar’s rock club, Cabo Wabo, (52-624 143-1188) is always a reliable pick.
