Music is a universal language. An evocative tune can make us laugh, cry, dance—even go out and change the world. Which is why on Tuesday, Dec. 15, CBS is airing the unique concert special Play On: Celebrating the Power of Music to Make Change. "2020 has been an immensely challenging year, and many have turned to music as a great source of comfort, hope and strength," says co-host and executive producer Kevin Bacon.

The genre-bending set list has something for everyone—country, rock, pop, hip-hop, and jazz/funk—featuring an eclectic lineup that includes Machine Gun Kelly, John Legend, Sheryl Crow, Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen, The Late Show With Stephen Colbert's Jon Batiste, and NCIS: Los Angeles star LL COOL J. They'll be performing from three iconic venues: the Troubadour in Los Angeles, the Apollo Theater in New York City, and the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville.

The benefit—hosted by Bacon and rapper/actress Eve—will raise funds for two long-standing and vital philanthropic organizations, the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund Inc. and WhyHunger, through the Play On fund created by Bacon's SixDegrees.org. During the broadcast, viewers can donate by texting the code PLAYON to 44-321.

To get you amped for the concert, we've curated a playlist of inspirational tunes—with some truly powerful messages—from some of the artists you'll see and hear during the special. Play on!

Catch the one-hour concert special, Play On: Celebrating the Power of Music to Make Change, on Tuesday, Dec. 15 at 8/7c on CBS and CBS All Access.

John Legend, "Never Break"

We will never break
We will never break
Built on a foundation
Strong enough to stay
We will never break
As the water rises
And the mountains shake
Our love will remain

Sheryl Crow, "I Shall Believe"

That not everything is gonna be the way
You think it ought to be
It seems like every time I try to make it right
It all comes down on me
Please say honestly you won't give up on me
And I shall believe

Bruce Springsteen, "The Power of Prayer"

They say that love, love comes and goes
But darlin' what, what do they know
I'm reaching for heaven, we'll make it there
Darlin' it's just the power of prayer

Andra Day, "Rise Up"

And I'll rise up
I'll rise like the day
I'll rise up
I'll rise unafraid
I'll rise up
And I'll do it a thousand times again
And I'll rise up
High like the waves
I'll rise up
In spite of the ache
I'll rise up
And I'll do it a thousand times again

Emily King feat. Sara Bareilles, "Teach You"

Do I have to explain how to care for somebody you love?
Call 'em up on the phone when they're feeling blue
Light up with the words they say to you
Do I have to explain how to care for somebody you trust?
Make 'em feel like there's no one else around
Pick 'em up when you think they're going down
How to show me when times are bad?
How to ask about the day I had and make it alright?
How to listen when we're all alone?
How to put away a telephone and look into my eyes?
It's never too late to learn the way

Bon Jovi, "Do What You Can"

When you can't do what you do
You do what you can
This ain't my prayer, it's just a thought I'm wanting to send
'Round here, we bend but don't break
Down here, we all understand
When you can't do what you do
You do what you can

Sara Bareilles, "Brave"

Say what you wanna say
And let the words fall out
Honestly, I wanna see you be brave

Ringo Starr, "Send Love Spread Peace"

Send love, spread peace
It's all in the world we need
Do all that needs done
To reach out to everyone
Imagine what a wonderful world it could be
(Wonderful world it could be)
Send love, (Send love) spread peace

Yola feat. The Highwomen, "Hold On"

Baby hold on to the things that you love
Show me who it is you are
Never let that feeling go
Let it show

Maren Morris, "Better Than We Found It"

When time turns this moment to dust
I just hope that I'm proud of the woman I was
When lines of tomorrow are drawn
Can I live with the side I chose to be on?
Will we sit on our hands, do nothing about it?
Or will we leave this world better than we found it?

Gary Clark Jr., "Come Together"

Come together, right now
Over me

Jon Batiste, "What A Wonderful World"

I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom, for me and you
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
