Daytime legend Don Diamont celebrates 35 years on CBS! Learn more about the actor who plays Bill Spencer, Jr. on The Bold and the Beautiful in this exclusive interview.
For thirty-five years, the dashing Don Diamont has been a familiar face on CBS Daytime Television. As the head of the Spencer Media Empire on The Bold and The Beautiful, actor Don Diamont plays the ruthless Bill "Dollar Bill" Spencer, Jr. Before his 11-year run on B&B, Diamont spent twenty-four years on The Young and the Restless as Brad Carlton.
Along with his powerhouse roles, the actor is also known for his rugged good looks, a trait that made him the first Daytime star to be named in both People Magazine's "50 Most Beautiful" and "Sexiest Man Alive" issues. He's also been on the big screen in the films Anger Management and Marco Polo. A native New Yorker, today Diamont lives in Los Angeles with his wife and their children. Don is the father to seven sons (yes, seven!), and he's written about it in his memoir My Seven Sons and How We Raised Each Other.
Watch spoke with Don Diamont about his long career on CBS, his co-stars, his hobbies, and what it's been like for him to be sheltering at home during the coronavirus.

Watch is all about television's hottest shows. Tell us about your character Bill Spencer, Jr. on The Bold and the Beautiful.
Bill is a media titan, and he was introduced to the show as the ultimate billionaire playboy womanizer. Through his involvement with Katie Logan, we found out that he did have some heart after all, but over the years he continues to battle with his win-at-all-costs, take no prisoners nature—which often creates conflict with his family.
He's a charming, swashbuckling pirate with a gift for really being able to compartmentalize his life. He has sort of a mafioso sensibility about his family. Loyalty is paramount! He's the kind of guy that can punch his own kid in the face if he feels betrayed, but God forbid anybody else lay a hand on his son. As of late, he's seen the error of his ways, but ... time will tell.

How does it feel to be celebrating 35 years on CBS Daytime television? (11 years on The Bold and the Beautiful and 24 years on The Young and the Restless)?
35 years is mind blowing! On the one hand that screen test for Y&R in 1985 feels like yesterday. But, when I really think about all that has transpired in my life since then, I really have a sense of time. I'm eternally grateful to the late Bill Bell for casting me as Brad Carlton. Same goes for Brad Bell trusting me with the character Bill Spencer, Jr. It's the role of a lifetime.
What was the first day on the B&B set like? First scene you filmed? Any memories or fun stories?
On my first day at B&B I had scenes with powerhouse Susan Flannery. It was brilliant on Brad Bell's part, because it really established right off the bat that Bill was a force to be reckoned with. As an actor I enjoyed going toe to toe with Susan, and Bill enjoyed going toe to toe with her character, Stephanie Forrester. I have a lot of respect for Susan. She was absolutely wonderful.

Tell us about your TV family and co-stars Darin Brooks, Scott Clifton, and Heather Tom?
Bill's sons, Liam and Wyatt, came into his life as adults and are from two different baby mamas! Bill would take a bullet for either one of them, but also give them a spanking when they need it. Not to mention a punch in the face. Hey, Liam deserved it! The characters are played by Scott Clifton and Darin Brooks, respectively, and they are wonderful actors, and just as wonderful people. We laugh a lot during rehearsal.

Bill's youngest son Will is from Katie. Presently he is the apple of his father's eye. He's played by Finnegan George, who does an outstanding job.
Katie Logan, twice divorced from Bill, is played by the one and only Heather Tom. Heather and I go back to our days on Y&R. We've worked together, and have been friends, for the better part of my 35 years on CBS. There's not enough I can say about Heather as an actress and a person. I am blessed to work opposite her.

Why did you decide to become an actor?
Because I couldn't sing or dance. Yes, a really old joke, but I like it a lot! It's also true. I really kind of just fell into acting, and low and behold, found that I had an affinity for it. I'm really blessed and appreciative.
You have seven sons in real life, and have even written a memoir about being a father to many children: My Seven Sons and How We Raised Each Other. What's the best part about having a big family?
Big family, big love! We have a blast hanging out together! When we travel, especially now that some of them have long-term girlfriends, it's like moving an army platoon!

When not filming B&B—or when being coronavirus quarantined as we all are now—what do you like to do? (Do you have a hidden talent or passion project that your fans may not know about you?)
Well, I don't know that I would call it a talent, or something I'm necessarily passionate about, but I do enjoy cooking and I'd gotten away from it in recent years. The stay-at-home orders got me back into it.
Working out is something I love to do, and that has of course continued. Our three youngest boys, Luca, 19 (a freshman quarterback at Duke University), and twins Anton (a high school football player) and Davis (a high school basketball player) are home with us. It's been fun for all of us to work out together.

What TV shows are you currently binge-watching or catching up on?
What's on your music playlist right now?
Various 70s music! It's pretty funny, because my sons used to give me shit about it, but now there's tons of 70s on their playlists!
Who's your biggest inspiration?
That's easy. My wife and my children are definitely my biggest inspiration.

A former model and known for your abs of steel, you made history by being the first actor from a Daytime drama series to be named in People Magazine's "50 Most Beautiful" issue. What are go-to ab/core exercises? Any at-home fitness tips for fans?
My at home fitness tip would simply be to keep moving. For people who like to train, they have it figured out. For people who don't, I like to say that doing a little of something is better than doing a lot of nothing. With the oppressive nature of the coronavirus hanging over all of us, that's never been more true.
The physical, mental, and emotional benefits of physical activity are well-documented. Working out is a stress and anxiety reliever. There are all kinds of beginner 20 minute workouts online that you can do in your own home, with no equipment whatsoever. Get moving people! You'll be glad you did!
