Renesas has made a groundbreaking announcement, marking a significant milestone in the world of semiconductor technology. The company has unveiled the industry’s first sixth-generation DDR5 Registered Clock Driver (RCD), designed for Registered Dual In-line Memory Modules (RDIMMs). This new innovation sets a new benchmark with transfer speeds reaching an impressive 9600 Mega Transfers Per Second (MT/s).
Revolutionary Speed with Renesas Gen6 DDR5 RCD
Renesas Electronics Corporation continues to lead the charge in advanced semiconductor solutions with the launch of its Gen6 DDR5 RCD. This product achieves a remarkable data rate of 9600 MT/s, eclipsing previous industry standards. Boasting a 10% bandwidth increase over its Gen5 predecessor, the new RCD allows for backward compatibility and offers enhanced signal integrity and power efficiency. This advancement is particularly beneficial for demanding AI, high-performance computing (HPC), and large language model (LLM) workloads.

The Gen6 DDR5 RCD includes several key features such as an expanded Decision Feedback Equalization Architecture, providing eight taps and 1.5mV granularity for superior margin tuning. Additionally, the Decision Engine Signal Telemetry and Margining (DESTM) technology offers improved system-level diagnostics with real-time signal quality indications, margin visibility, and diagnostic feedback, essential for achieving higher speeds.
Looking Ahead: Availability and Collaborations
The latest DDR5 RDIMMs cater to the ever-growing memory bandwidth needs posed by AI, HPC, and other data-centric applications. Renesas has played a pivotal role in the design and implementation of these modules, partnering with key industry players, including CPU and memory providers, as well as end-users. Samsung Electronics has expressed excitement over the integration of Gen6 RCD into their DDR5 DIMMs, highlighting the robust partnership with Renesas.
The RRG5006x Gen6 RCD is engineered to meet the rigorous demands of future server platforms, ensuring high performance, reliability, and scalability. Renesas is currently sampling the RRG5006x RCD to select customers, including major DRAM suppliers, with full production availability anticipated in the first half of 2027.
