The gaming world is abuzz with excitement as Ubisoft’s Splinter Cell remake edges closer to release. Nearly four years have passed since Ubisoft confirmed the much-anticipated project, stirring up a wave of enthusiasm among fans of the stealth-action series. The development journey has seen its fair share of ups and downs, with significant changes in the team leading the charge.
Key Developments in the Splinter Cell Remake
David Grivel, a seasoned industry professional, initially took on the role of Game Director for the Splinter Cell remake. Known for his work on titles such as Crysis 2 and multiple Ubisoft projects including Far Cry 6, Grivel’s expertise was a promising addition. However, his journey with the project has been anything but linear. After leaving Ubisoft in October 2022 to join DICE for Battlefield 6, Grivel briefly returned to Ubisoft Toronto in May 2024 before departing once more. His latest venture involved a stint at Worlds Untold, a NetEase-funded developer, which unfortunately was short-lived due to the developer’s closure in late 2024.
Grivel’s Return and Project Progress
This year, Grivel worked remotely as a consultant on the cyberpunk action RPG NEO BERLIN 2087. However, the big news came last week when he announced via LinkedIn that he had rejoined the Splinter Cell remake as Game Director. His return is expected to drive the project towards its completion, with sources indicating a targeted release in 2026. The game, powered by the Snowdrop Engine, is rumored to be visually stunning, raising anticipation among fans.
While specific details about the game’s narrative remain scarce, a prior job description hinted at an updated storyline tailored for modern audiences. It’s unclear if this direction has persisted through the project’s leadership changes.
A New Era for Classic Ubisoft Titles
The revival of classic games seems to be a trend for Ubisoft. Following the successful remake of Metal Gear Solid 3, players can look forward to experiencing the return of Sam Fisher. Alongside the Splinter Cell remake, 2026 is also slated to see the launch of other major Ubisoft remakes, including Prince of Persia: Sands of Time and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.
