Elias Toufexis, a voice actor best known for bringing Adam Jensen from Eidos Montreal’s Deus Ex games to life, recently expressed his frustration with those steering the direction of the beloved immersive-sim franchise. Despite working on several projects in 2026, fans hoping for a new Deus Ex title might be disappointed.
Toufexis’ Bold Statement on Deus Ex
In a series of images shared on social media, Toufexis hinted at his current endeavors, including the game Marathon and three other projects under non-disclosure agreements. However, any hope for a new Deus Ex game was dashed when he candidly remarked about the decision-makers, stating, “…No Deus Ex because the people in charge are psychopaths.”
Challenges Facing the Deus Ex Franchise
Human Revolution and Mankind Divided, the last two entries in the Deus Ex series, were critically acclaimed yet fell short of commercial success. Efforts to revive the franchise have faced numerous hurdles. Reports suggest that a revival at Eidos Montreal was shut down in early 2024, and attempts to pitch a new game were met with resistance, being deemed too niche by potential publishers.
Eidos Montreal appears eager to revisit Deus Ex, even aspiring to “do what Cyberpunk 2077 couldn’t.” However, the studio has faced layoffs and project shutdowns, shifting focus to projects like Tomb Raider. Although a Deus Ex remaster is in the works, its release has been postponed indefinitely due to negative feedback. Fans remain hopeful that Eidos Montreal will eventually carve a path for a new Deus Ex adventure.
