Alienware is taking its high-performance gaming systems to the next level by equipping its Area-51 series with the latest AMD Ryzen 9000 X3D processors. Starting today, gamers across North America have the option to power their rigs with either the Ryzen 7 9800X3D or the Ryzen 9 9950X3D, with prices beginning at $4,350. Those who prefer a slightly less intense setup can also opt for the reliable Ryzen 7 9700X.
Sources have evaluated the 8-core 9800X3D and found it to dominate nearly all non-X3D competitors, owing to AMD’s innovative 3D V-cache technology which integrates on-die memory beneath the core chiplet die. The more robust 16-core 9950X3D, reviewed months later, was deemed powerful enough to surpass most gamers’ needs.
Power and Performance
The new processors are undoubtedly power-intensive, with the 9800X3D consuming up to 160.3W and the 9950X3D reaching 200W during tests. Despite this hefty power draw, they secured the top spots in best gaming CPU lists, offering Alienware a competitive edge over other brands such as MSI and Asus. However, this performance surge comes at a premium, with the starting price set significantly higher than the $3,650 charged for the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K variant.
Hardware Configuration and Design
While the processors are new, Alienware maintains familiar configurations. Users can select from Nvidia GPUs like the GeForce RTX 5070 up to the RTX 5090, though the highly favored AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT is absent. Other specifications, including RAM, ports, and storage options, remain unchanged. Notably, the design includes a practical front cooling vent, often used as a handle for maneuvering the system.
