Astrolabe Interactive’s cooperative sandbox survival game, Aloft, has been captivating players since its early access debut on January 15, 2025. As its highly anticipated Bloom & Blight expansion rolls out today, the game ushers in a transformative experience for its community. This update promises significant enhancements that redefine gameplay, offering fresh challenges and opportunities for exploration.

Aloft’s Major Update: Bloom & Blight Expansion

The Bloom & Blight expansion introduces a plethora of new features and improvements to Aloft. A new world generation system, an overhauled progression system, and revamped restoration mechanics headline this comprehensive update. Players can now enjoy new tool and weapon tiers, explore two new corruption strains, and utilize wind tunnels for faster sky travel.

The revamped progression system now integrates research points, granting players the flexibility to tailor their gameplay styles. This system works in tandem with the knowledge tree, offering more freedom in shaping the survival experience. The restoration of corrupted islands has never been more rewarding, as clearing corruption grants access to the Life Trees’ inner basin, unlocking new resources and exploration areas.

New Challenges and Tools Await Players

Alongside the restoration improvements, the combat mechanics see enhancements, with more varieties of corruption enemies and the ability to study anomalies better. Collecting samples and knowledge stones underpins the new progression system, allowing players to craft advanced contraptions and enhance their islands.

New tools, such as Windstone and Serrated Bone, offer increased damage and effectiveness. These tools are pivotal in navigating the game’s new challenges, including the Sportox and Floglade enemies. These foes present unique hurdles, like spores that temporarily disable gliders, demanding strategic combat engagement.

The Future of Aloft

With the addition of wind tunnels, players can now convert islands into ships, facilitating faster travel across the skies. This update demonstrates a new chapter for Aloft, setting a foundation for its eventual v1.0 release. While the full version isn’t imminent, the updated roadmap reveals Astrolabe Interactive’s commitment to continuous development, with the current version being called ‘Legacy’ reflecting these transformative changes.
