AMD B850 Gaining Momentum in Korea’s DIY Scene, Poised to Overtake B650

As the world of PC building continues to evolve, AMD’s B850 boards are stepping into the spotlight by offering an enticing option for budget-conscious enthusiasts. With their rising popularity, these boards are becoming a preferred choice over the B650 for many looking to build mid-range systems.

AMD B850 Gaining Traction in the Market

AMD’s B850 chipset has seen a remarkable increase in adoption rates, particularly in South Korea’s DIY market over the past 10 months. The board is swiftly closing in on the previously dominant B650, which has long been a favorite among AM5 chipset users.

Recent figures indicate that B850 motherboards now command a significant 28.8% of the market share, with B650 maintaining a slight lead at 37.64%. The B650’s share has been decreasing consistently, and if the current trend continues, the B850 could take the lead within the next few months.

Price Dynamics and Form Factor Preferences

The affordability of the B850 has been a crucial factor in its growing appeal. While the B850’s average selling price (ASP) has decreased by 21% this year to 263,285 WON, it remains 1.7 times higher than the B650’s ASP of 155,929 WON. This pricing difference hasn’t deterred builders, especially those opting for the standard ATX form factor of the B850, as opposed to the B650’s popularity with Micro-ATX builds.

Brand Competition Intensifies

In terms of brand competition, ASUS dominates with a substantial 37.64% market share, while MSI follows with 28.8%. GIGABYTE has experienced a significant drop, now holding just 14.33%. Meanwhile, ASRock has surged to nearly 20%, likely buoyed by their new Challenger series B850 motherboards and possible price cuts.
