During an interview, AMD’s Ryzen Chief, David McAfee, emphasized their efforts to revitalize the AM4 lineup. This is in response to the current difficulties faced by consumers due to the expensive nature of DDR5-oriented platforms like AM5 and LGA 1851, making DDR4 setups a more viable option.
The AM4 platform, having been around for nine years, has seen several Ryzen generations come and go. While some families have been shelved, others continue to thrive in the global market. AMD is committed to increasing the supply of these processors to sustain the AM4 ecosystem, catering to gamers’ demands for significant upgrades without overhauling their entire systems.
Surge in AM4 CPU Sales
Recent data shows a notable rise in AM4 CPU sales, particularly the Ryzen 5000 series, which are leading the charts as top sellers on platforms like Amazon across North America and Europe. Even older Zen 2 processors, such as the Ryzen 5 3600, have made it into the top 10 best-selling CPUs, indicating a resurgence of interest in the AM4 platform.
However, there is a sense of disappointment in the market regarding the absence of Ryzen 5000X3D CPUs. These popular models, including the Ryzen 7 5800X3D and 5700X3D, were phased out last year. Their return would be welcomed, especially as the Ryzen 5 5600X3D remains scarce, and there’s a growing demand for 8-core X3D models that can compete with newer series like the Ryzen 7000.
