AMD’s FSR ‘Redstone’ AI Upscaling Update Arrives

AMD is pushing the boundaries of graphics technology with the launch of FSR “Redstone.” This new set of upscaling features promises to enhance visual fidelity for gamers using the latest generation of graphics cards, including the Radeon RX 9070 XT and Radeon RX 9060 XT. Offering cutting-edge tools powered by machine learning, Redstone joins AMD’s suite of advanced upscaling technologies.

Ray Regeneration and Gaming Impact

Among the standout features of Redstone is Ray Regeneration, designed to enhance ray-traced reflections and shadows by cleaning up noisy visuals before upscaling. In the game Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, evaluators noted its ability to produce sharper lighting effects on surfaces, such as pools and glossy floors. Strikingly, some differences are less noticeable in official AMD comparison videos featuring Jack Huynh, highlighting the game in native 4K versus with FSR Redstone enabled.

Here are a couple of screengrabs from that:

AMD assures that Ray Regeneration will become available in more games soon.

Expanding Game Support and Future Innovations

FSR Upscaling and Frame Generation now have broader support, incorporating generative AI to insert frames between traditionally rendered ones, thereby boosting framerates. As sources have reported, 32 games currently support the new Frame Generation update, while over 200 titles, including major releases like Black Myth: Wukong and ARC Raiders, now benefit from general FSR Redstone support.

Another promising feature is Radiance Caching, which aims to optimize ray tracing by predicting light behavior. However, gamers will need to wait until 2026 to see this feature in action within games. If you own a compatible GPU, the update is available through AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 25.12.1 on their website.
