Ubisoft has revealed its comprehensive post-launch strategy for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, detailing a full year of upcoming content including free updates based on player feedback and paid DLC expansions.
Free Content Updates Begin Rolling Out in May
The publisher outlined its 2025 plans in a concise four-and-a-half-minute roadmap video released today. The video provides a clear schedule for May and June, showcasing how the development team plans to maintain player engagement through regular free updates throughout the year.
The first wave of content arrives in early May with The Works of Luis Frois, the initial free story addition. This release will be complemented by a Codex update and several quality-of-life improvements. Later in May, players can expect substantial parkour enhancements and a photo mode update. According to the community developer in the roadmap video, these adjustments reflect Ubisoft’s commitment to implementing player feedback.
The development team emphasized that player input has guided their approach throughout development and will continue to shape the game’s evolution post-release. They confirmed that regular title updates are planned, each bringing meaningful additions and changes based on community requests, alongside bug fixes to enhance the experience across all platforms.

June Brings Additional Challenges and Customization Options
June will introduce the second free story expansion, accompanied by more challenging difficulty settings, gameplay immersion options, an open-world alarm system, and the ability to toggle headgear visibility during cutscenes. While these enhancements address current player requests, the roadmap promises even more features before year’s end, including new game+ support, additional story content, and special collaborations.
Major DLC Expansion Coming Later This Year
The highlight of the post-launch roadmap is the first major DLC expansion, Claws of Awaji. Scheduled for release later this year, this expansion will introduce the Bo staff weapon and a new region for protagonists Naoe and Yasuke to explore during its approximately 10-hour adventure. While pricing details remain unannounced, players who pre-ordered Assassin’s Creed Shadows before its March release will receive this expansion at no additional cost.
Successful Launch Continues to Build Momentum
Assassin’s Creed Shadows launched on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on March 20, finally bringing the celebrated stealth series to Feudal Japan. The game has proven commercially successful, becoming the best-selling title of the previous month, while also securing a place among the most acclaimed games of 2025 thus far.
