Blizzard Veteran Secures Funding for Innsmouth Mysteries: A Co-Op Horror Extraction RPG Inspired by Lovecraft

Lunacy Games, led by Blizzard veteran Bill Roper, is making waves in the gaming industry with its latest project, Innsmouth Mysteries. Known for his work on iconic franchises like Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo, Roper’s studio has successfully secured funding for this new venture, setting the stage for a thrilling journey into the world of cooperative horror RPGs.

From Hellgate to Innsmouth: A New Direction

Initially, Lunacy Games aimed to develop titles like Hellgate: Redemption and Skinwalkers, blending unique themes and settings. However, those projects were sidelined due to a lack of substantial funding, which was estimated to be between $15 million and $20 million. Instead, the focus shifted to Innsmouth Mysteries, thanks to a $500K investment from Big Bang Accelerator.

Exploring the Mysteries of Innsmouth

Innsmouth Mysteries promises to deliver a cooperative horror extraction RPG experience inspired by H.P. Lovecraft’s works. Set in a mysterious 1920s coastal town, players will embody supernatural investigators tasked with uncovering secrets, gathering arcane artifacts, and thwarting an ancient evil before midnight.

A Vision for the Future

Roper envisions a space between triple-A and indie games, a zone ripe for innovation where engaging gameplay meets rich narratives, and believes Innsmouth Mysteries epitomizes this ambition. Despite a team of just 13, including Roper’s own contributions to the audio, the studio is determined to bring this unique experience to life. Although there is no release date yet, anticipation is building, and updates are eagerly awaited.
