CDL 2025 Championship Day 3: Shocking Upsets and Grand Finalists Announced

Day 3 of CDL Championship 2025 featured some hiccups but ultimately ended the day with a good chunk of action. Optic Texas and Vancouver Surge have progressed to the Grand Final while Atlanta FaZe’s campaign came to an end as they were eliminated.

Atlanta FaZe, opening elimination match against Miami Heretics, a team that is looking to put Europe on the map in Call of Duty’s biggest stage. In the Skyline Hardpoint match, MIami Heretics won by a close 250-233 score. Despite David ‘RenKor’ Isern getting friendly fired, Miami Heretics secured an impressive 6-3 victory against the Protocol Search and Destroy. Though FaZe won two regular-season Majors, they could not bounce back in Protocol Control against Miami Heretics but suffered a 3-0 clean sweep.

Canadian Showdown: Vancouver Surge Advances

In a Canadian clash, Toronto Ultra battled Vancouver Surge. In Vault Hardpoint, Vancouver’s plays pulled off a 250-235 win. Byron ‘Nastie’ Plumridge led Vancouver to a 6-4 victory in Protocol Search and Destroy. The Toronto Ultra were unable to shift the momentum even with the backing of the crowd, falling to a 3-0 defeat in Vault Control. Through to another grand final, the Vancouver Surge are making a second appearance in 2023.

OpTic Texas Clinches Grand Final Berth

Boston Breach took on OpTic Texas in the winner’s bracket final, with both teams hunting for a spot in the Grand Final. OpTic Texas was dominant from the start, overpowering Boston with a 250-73 win in Vault Hardpoint. OpTic mirrored this consistency in Protocol Search and Destroy, taking a 6-1 win and putting Boston in a rough situation. Boston Breach held on during HC but would fall short once again 3-0 leaving OpTic and the Grand Finals. They would be the first team to clinch a spot in the Grand Finals.

In the elimination final, Vancouver Surge defeated Miami Heretics in the thrilling series of five games.  Vancouver won 6-5 on Red Card Search and Destroy to secure the victory, eliminating Miami Heretics with a top-six finish. Next, Vancouver faced Boston Breach in the lower-bracket finals. They won over Rewind Hardpoint by 250-235, though Breach would bring the series to level with a commanding 6-2 win in Rewind Search and Destroy. Vancouver took control back in Vault Control with a 3-0 wipe, before Breach responded to win Skyline Hardpoint 250-188 to knock it to a game 5. Vancouver Surge showed their strength in Red Card Search and Destroy, winning it 6-2 to qualify for the Grand Finals with a 3-2 victory overall.

Upcoming Showdown: CDL Championship Grand Final
