Copenhagen Wolves Halt CS2 Activities, Roster Up for Transfers

Copenhagen Wolves have decided to pause their Counter-Strike 2 operations, placing the entire roster up for transfer. This move marks a significant moment as the organization, which was revived by an American owner in 2023, ends a three-year run in the CS2 scene. Over the past couple of years, the team has participated in Tier 2 and Tier 3 competitions, achieving a notable victory at United21 Season 25 in January 2025.

Challenges in the CS2 Ecosystem

The organization has expressed that the current focus on the Valve Regional Standings (VRS) poses challenges for smaller teams seeking growth. This decision follows a history of competing in various Counter-Strike versions, including Source and Global Offensive, since its founding in 2009. The 2016 roster featured prominent players like Lukas ‘gla1ve’ Rossander and Marco ‘Snappi’ Pfeiffer.

“This wasn’t an easy decision,” the organization shared on social media. “Our roster has worked incredibly hard, but we have to acknowledge that the results weren’t where we needed them to be. At the same time, the current CS2 ecosystem (specifically in regards to VRS) has made it extremely difficult for smaller organizations to grow without large financial backing.”

Another Pause in CS2

Copenhagen Wolves’ decision mirrors a broader trend in the CS2 community. Earlier in February 2025, the organization Endpoint similarly benched its roster, citing the VRS focus as a hindrance to the advancement of lower-tier teams. This development raises questions about whether more organizations will follow suit due to the challenges posed by the global standings. With Copenhagen Wolves stepping back from Counter-Strike, it remains to be seen if others facing similar struggles will take the same path.
