Creative Director Claims ‘NO LAW’ Offers More Intimacy Than ‘Cyberpunk 2077’

When NO LAW made its debut at The Game Awards 2025, the immediate thought on many minds was how it mirrors CD Projekt RED’s iconic Cyberpunk 2077. Developed by Neon Giant, the creative force behind The Ascent, NO LAW is an upcoming single-player first-person open-world shooter RPG situated in a vibrant cyberpunk city. While its setting draws parallels with Cyberpunk 2077, which recently marked its fifth anniversary, Neon Giant promises distinctive elements that set their game apart.

Neon Giant’s Vision for NO LAW

In a recent interview, Neon Giant’s Co-Founder and Creative Director Tor Frick discussed the inevitable comparisons with Cyberpunk 2077 but highlighted the unique aspects of NO LAW. “I think obviously every day we have to do that internally as well. Because we know what Cyberpunk is and we know people will compare us. But the game is very different and the world is very different. A lot of it is, it’s just the mood and the tone. Cyberpunk is a big, sprawling experience. It’s a mega city. And our game is a lot more intimate both when it comes to the gameplay mechanics but also the world. I think as people see more of the game that will be more apparent. It’s hard to do in a short trailer like that. I think you need to see and feel the game more. It is more of an intimate experience, like the world is deep but not so grand. And the same thing with mechanics and the same thing with the story. It is very, very personal and very, very reactive around you as a player, rather than being set in this grand backdrop.” Arcade Berg, the studio’s other Co-Founder and Creative Director, emphasized that NO LAW adopts a playful tone reminiscent of The Ascent, drawing inspiration from 80s-90s action films, Hong Kong action scenes, and even manga and anime.

A Closer Look at Grey Harker’s Journey

NO LAW introduces the protagonist, Grey Harker, a retired military veteran who steps away from his past life of violence after sustaining severe injuries. Seeking tranquility by nurturing his garden, Grey’s peaceful existence is shattered when trouble finds its way to his doorstep, echoing the plot of John Wick. This forces him back into action to confront those responsible for disrupting his peace.

NO LAW is under development for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S and X, though a release date remains unconfirmed. KRAFTON, which acquired Neon Giant a few years ago, will publish the game. This promises a more intimate gameplay experience, emphasizing personal and reactive storytelling over grandiose settings.
