The Redemption of Cyberpunk 2077

Initially plagued by a problematic launch in 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 struggled to meet expectations due to performance issues, particularly on PS4 and Xbox One consoles. However, CD Projekt RED committed to rectifying these issues, culminating in the release of the Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 patch three years later. The game’s journey from disaster to success is marked by this significant sales milestone, just a year after reaching 30 million copies sold.

The Future of CD Projekt RED

The future holds more promise for CD Projekt RED as they focus on their next big release, The Witcher 4. This title is in full swing with a sizeable team of 447 developers, while another 135 developers are scaling up efforts on the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, codenamed Project Orion. As the studio prepares to launch The Witcher 4, the outcome will determine if they regain the trust of players worldwide.

Michał Nowakowski, joint CEO of CD Projekt RED, expressed satisfaction with Cyberpunk 2077’s enduring success, highlighting its continued appeal to new players. He emphasized the franchise’s strong performance, stating, “Sales of the game have exceeded 35 million copies, which testifies to the franchise’s enduring power and enables us to be even more audacious about charting its future.”
