Darktide Unveils Hive Scum Class, PvP Still Off the Table

To celebrate a decade of thrilling gaming experiences, Fatshark is rolling out exciting updates for fans of their beloved Warhammer series. As part of the 10 Years of Tide festivities, Warhammer: Vermintide 2 not only received a new map but was also available for free for a limited time. Meanwhile, Warhammer 40K: Darktide is set to introduce a fresh paid DLC featuring the intriguing Hive Scum class. This comes after the success of the Arbites class, and the Hive Scum promises to bring a unique, rebellious flair to the game, as these native criminals of Tertium’s Hive City team up with the inquisitorial warband against chaos.

Dive into the Hive Scum Experience

The Hive Scum class introduces extensive personalization options, offering players new faces, hairstyles, bold full-body tattoos, and a unique face paint system. With these features, players can showcase allegiance to different cartels within the Hive, adding depth and individuality to their characters. This class offers a fast-paced playstyle, specializing in dual-wielding pistols and shivs. Players can switch between frenzied and precise firing modes with their pistols, as well as alter attack styles with their blades, emphasizing the class’s aggressive street-gang vibe.

The Hive Scum class is a premium DLC available from December 2, priced at $11.99 for the Standard Edition and $18.99 for the Premium Edition. However, all Darktide players will enjoy a new three-mission story arc through a free update. This story arc features trench warfare-like combat in a ‘No Man’s Land’ setting, tasking players with escorting a tank to reclaim a stronghold. The missions promise a captivating blend of outdoor combat areas with Warhammer 40K’s signature ruined cityscapes and bunkers.

Innovative Abilities and Gameplay

The Hive Scum class is packed with abilities that suit its daring gangster persona. Players can enjoy unlimited ammo and invincibility with the Desperado ultimate, enhance melee power with Rampage, or support allies with the Stimm Supply. The new Stimm Lab system offers a unique progression path, allowing players to customize their ‘Cartel Special’ stimm, which can evolve based on the player’s choices. Additionally, the introduction of the toxins damage type adds another layer to combat strategies, allowing players to inflict damage over time and weaken foes.

Continued Support and Future Developments

Fatshark is committed to ongoing support for Darktide, with plans for additional missions, factions, and features. The development of a new class, such as Hive Scum, typically takes six to twelve months and involves a talented team of 10 to 25 members. While the studio has no immediate plans for PvP modes akin to Warhammer: Vermintide 2, they have not completely ruled out the possibility for the future. Fans can expect continued evolution and expansion of the Darktide universe, ensuring an exciting journey ahead.
