The remastered version of Days Gone is set to launch on PlayStation 5 and PC on April 25, introducing a range of accessibility improvements. Among the standout additions is a game speed toggle that transforms the high-intensity, open-world zombie action into a slower, more manageable experience—offering a kind of bullet time effect throughout the game.
Adjustable Game Speed Enhances Playability
According to Bend Studio’s creative lead Kevin McAllister, the new Game Speed feature allows players to reduce gameplay speed from the standard 100 percent to 75, 50, or even 25 percent. He explained on the PlayStation Blog that this adjustment is particularly helpful for those who may struggle during fast-paced combat scenarios, especially when dealing with large groups of Freakers. The studio wanted to ensure that the game’s hallmark horde battles remain thrilling but are also accessible to a broader range of players. This goal is further emphasized by the inclusion of a new Horde Assault mode in the remaster, which significantly expands the scale of enemy encounters.

Horde Assault Mode and Other Gameplay Updates
Horde Assault will challenge players by adding 300 more Freakers on-screen and introducing a permadeath feature, significantly raising the stakes for survival. However, the remaster includes more than just intensified gameplay. The update also brings a suite of visual and auditory accessibility features designed to support players with various needs.
Subtitle and background customization now offer 11 new color options, helping to enhance dialogue readability. A fully adjustable high-contrast mode has also been implemented, making it easier to distinguish game elements such as the HUD and UI from the environment.
Streamlined Navigation and Improved Interaction
Further improving the player experience, UI narration has been added alongside new audio cues designed to assist in locating the game’s 240 collectibles. Additionally, a long-requested feature—the option to automatically complete quick-time events—has been expanded to all difficulty levels, no longer being exclusive to the easiest mode.
These updates follow a growing trend in Sony’s approach to remasters, where older titles are modernized with thoughtful quality-of-life enhancements. The remastered version of Days Gone will be priced at $50, with existing owners able to upgrade for a $10 fee.
