The upcoming Edge of Fate expansion is set to transform Destiny 2 in significant ways. Guardians can look forward to a complete armor system overhaul, brand-new weapons, fresh abilities, and even a combat-ready vehicle. With so much new content on the horizon, here’s a breakdown of what players can expect when the expansion arrives.
Explore Kepler and Wield Dark Matter Powers
The expansion introduces Kepler, a mysterious new planet for players to explore. Alongside this uncharted destination, Guardians will gain access to three unique Dark Matter powers: Matterspark, the Relocator Cannon, and Mattermorph. These abilities are activated by interacting with special Dark Matter spores found throughout Kepler’s open world.
Matterspark transforms players into a fast-moving ball of Arc energy, allowing them to zip through tight spaces while dealing continuous Arc damage to nearby enemies. Though still vulnerable to attacks, this form provides increased mobility and the ability to bypass obstacles by slipping through narrow passages.
The Relocator Cannon, described as a Fallen invention, functions as a Void-based rocket launcher with teleportation capabilities. Firing it not only deals explosive Void damage but can also warp players to new locations, bypassing laser barriers or tight corridors. Its offensive potential includes triggering Volatile explosions, similar to effects seen in other Void weapons.
Mattermorph, a Strand-based ability, lets players reshape the environment to create new pathways or manipulate objects for both traversal and combat. Green-glowing structures can be moved or thrown, inflicting Strand debuffs like Suspension and Unraveling. Bungie hinted that clever use of this power could completely alter encounter dynamics.
Armor 3.0: A Complete Overhaul
The Edge of Fate brings Armor 3.0, a major rework of the armor system designed to offer deeper customization. Gone are the days of grinding resources to upgrade gear—armor now drops with fully unlocked slots and an energy pool based on the World Tier it originates from. High-tier armor can have up to 11 energy, rewarding players who tackle tougher challenges.
Set Bonuses and Enhanced Stats
Armor sets now provide unique bonuses when wearing multiple pieces. For example, the Techsec Armor grants increased Kinetic damage against shields with two pieces, while a four-piece set adds a disorienting shockwave when breaking enemy shields. These bonuses encourage players to mix and match sets for optimal builds.
Stats have also been revamped, allowing players to exceed the 100-point cap for additional benefits. Key stat categories include:
- Weapons: Boosts reload speed, handling, and damage, with enhanced perks like bonus ammo drops.
- Health: Improves shield regeneration and reduces flinching, with extra health bonuses past 100.
- Class: Lowers ability cooldowns and grants overshields upon activation.
- Grenade/Super/Melee: Reduces cooldowns while increasing damage output at higher tiers.
New Vehicles and Returning Exotics
A limited-time event called Heavy Metal will debut alongside the expansion, featuring a Crucible Labs mode where teams battle in Drake tanks against Fallen Brig walkers. Participants can earn the Griffon, a combat-ready Sparrow equipped with mounted weapons for open-world engagements.
Fans of classic Destiny exotics will be pleased to see the return of No Land Beyond, now rebranded as New Land Beyond. This Kinetic sniper rifle features iron sights for quick aiming and perks that reward precision hits, making it a deadly choice for sharpshooters. Pre-ordering the Year of Prophecy Ultimate or Collector’s Edition grants immediate access to this weapon.
With so many changes and additions, The Edge of Fate promises to refresh Destiny 2’s gameplay in exciting new ways.
