Bungie has pulled back the curtain on the next major chapter in Destiny 2, introducing the Fate Saga, a sprawling narrative arc set to unfold over multiple years. Kicking off in July 2025 with The Edge of Fate, this saga promises fresh destinations, deeper mysteries, and a faster content release cycle to keep Guardians engaged.
The Year of Prophecy Begins
The first phase, dubbed the Year of Prophecy, will deliver four expansions, starting with The Edge of Fate on July 15, 2025. Players will explore the enigmatic planetoid Kepler, uncovering secrets that challenge their understanding of the universe. Following this, Renegades arrives on December 2, 2025, continuing the story with even more action-packed adventures.
Bungie confirmed a shift in content delivery, moving to two expansions per year instead of the previous episodic structure. This means less waiting between major releases and more frequent updates to the game’s evolving world.
Free Major Updates Enhance the Experience
Between expansions, Major Updates will introduce substantial changes, including sandbox overhauls, new events, gear, and Artifact mods. The first of these, Ash & Iron, launches on September 9, 2025, as part of the Season of Reclamation. Later, Shadow & Order arrives on March 3, 2026, tied to Renegades and the Season of Lawless.
Crucially, these updates will be free for all players and remain permanently accessible—no content vaulting here. Each update is expected to be as impactful as Into the Light, offering plenty of reasons to jump back in.
Expansions Continue Into 2026
The Year of Prophecy doesn’t stop there. Shattered Cycle arrives in Summer 2026, followed by the saga’s climactic finale, The Alchemist, in Winter 2026. Bungie teased new destinations, gameplay mechanics, and fan-favorite features making a return.
One standout addition is customizable destination difficulty, allowing players to tailor their experience to match their skill level. With so much on the horizon, Destiny 2’s future looks brighter than ever.
