Epic Games has decided to cancel the Fortnite Reload Performance Evaluation Cup in both the Oceania (OCE) and Asia (ASIA) regions, citing a technical issue that led to bot accounts populating lobbies unexpectedly.
This bug appeared without warning and has disrupted the company’s current efforts to test the competitive viability of the Fortnite Reload mode. It comes at a time when Epic Games is actively experimenting with the format to assess its potential in structured tournaments.
Official Statement Confirms Issue
The news was shared through the Fortnite Status account on X on April 9, 2025. In the announcement, Epic Games stated that it would be cancelling the day’s events in OCE and ASIA due to a problem where non-player bot opponents were entering matches.
Although the issue is currently limited to these two regions, there is concern that similar problems could surface in future events for Europe (EU) and North America (NA). At this stage, it remains uncertain whether the affected tournaments will be rescheduled.
Overview of the Fortnite Reload Performance Evaluation Cup
Fortnite Reload is a dynamic variation of the standard battle royale mode. Instead of the usual 100-player setup, matches are limited to 40 players, split into teams, and take place on a significantly smaller map.
A standout mechanic in this mode is the reboot system. This feature allows players who have been eliminated to return to the match as long as one member of their squad is still active. However, this option is disabled toward the end of the game.
The Performance Evaluation Cup itself is a limited-time in-game event organized by Epic Games. It is not on the same competitive level as the FNCS 2025 tournaments and features a much smaller reward pool. The primary purpose of this cup is to gather data on game stability and tournament performance, which can then be applied to future developments, including new game modes like Fortnite Ballistic and events such as FNCS Pro-Am 2025.
Structure and Past Issues
These tournaments are split into multiple sessions. The most recent ones were made up of four matches each, with teams earning points based on their placement and elimination count. The four highest-ranked teams from each session receive $800 each.
This is not the first time the Performance Evaluation Cup has encountered problems. A prior event, held on November 4, 2024, had to be cancelled after players experienced a glitch that caused multiple maps to merge during gameplay.
