Evil Geniuses Confirms Limited Participation in VALORANT Esports World Cup

North American esports organization Evil Geniuses (EG) has clarified its position on the upcoming VALORANT Esports World Cup 2025, confirming that its VALORANT roster will take part in the competition. However, the organization will not provide any promotional or media support for matches related to the event.

In a statement shared on social platform X, EG specified that its involvement would remain strictly competitive. The organization stated that it will refrain from publishing updates, highlights, or mentions related to the tournament across its official channels. EG also noted that this stance may be reconsidered after evaluating the outcomes of Phase 2.

Qualification and Strategic Reasoning

EG’s VALORANT team secured automatic placement in the EWC Americas Qualifier after finishing fourth in the first stage of the VCT Americas 2025. The qualifier, which ends on May 25th, offers two slots for the main event of the Esports World Cup. EG is scheduled to face 100 Thieves in a high-stakes matchup later today.

The organization emphasized that opportunities for its players to compete at the highest level are limited, and participating in the EWC offers crucial experience. EG sees this as a stepping stone to potentially qualify for this year’s VCT Champions.

A representative from the organization encouraged fans to continue supporting individual players and coaches, acknowledging their efforts to remain competitive amid challenging circumstances.

No Ties to EWC Partner Program

Evil Geniuses is not among the 40 esports entities that are part of the Esports World Cup Foundation Club Partner Program. This detail further underlines the organization’s measured approach toward involvement in the tournament.

Wider Industry Reaction and Controversy

As the Esports World Cup draws near, the event has sparked intense discussion due to its backing by Saudi Arabia. Critics have raised concerns about potential “sportswashing,” prompting several teams and organizers to reassess their participation.

Earlier in the week, GeoGuessr withdrew from the event following public backlash. Meanwhile, Team Liquid reaffirmed its advocacy for inclusivity in esports, planning to wear Pride-themed jerseys during their appearances at the competition this summer.
