Fable from Playground Games Rumored for Simultaneous PS5 Launch; Forza Horizon 6 Delayed Due to Readiness Issues

British game studio Playground Games is set to take center stage at the Xbox Developer Direct 2026, offering fans the first detailed glimpse into the much-anticipated Fable reboot and unveiling Forza Horizon 6. These two titles promise to be the highlight of the event scheduled for January 22, alongside other exciting announcements like Game Freak’s Beast of Reincarnation and a rumored ‘secret’ fourth game.

A Glimpse into Fable and Forza Horizon 6

Both Fable and Forza Horizon 6 are, as of now, confirmed for PC and Xbox Series S|X. Yet, given Microsoft’s strategy of embracing multiple platforms, it’s highly likely that these games will also arrive on Sony’s PlayStation 5. Forza Horizon 5’s impressive performance on PS5 since its April 2025 launch suggests that a similar path could be taken for these new titles, despite their current exclusive announcements for Microsoft’s platforms.

The Delay and Anticipation

During the latest VGC podcast episode, Andy Robinson shared insights from sources at Playground Games, shedding light on the platform release strategy. It seems that while Fable is poised to launch simultaneously across all major platforms, Forza Horizon 6 might experience a staggered release. Robinson mentioned that Forza Horizon 6 wasn’t ready for a PS5 debut immediately, unlike Fable, which is targeting a day-and-date release on PS5. This approach aims to bolster Fable’s visibility by launching it on all key platforms at once.

However, Playground Games is in no rush to delay Forza Horizon 6 just to synchronize with the PS5 version, as evidenced by the enthusiasm from the PlayStation community regarding the late release of FH5. The studio seems confident that even a slightly delayed PS5 release for FH6 won’t hinder its success.

Release Projections

While specific release dates haven’t been announced, more information is expected at the Xbox Developer Direct 2026. Speculations hint that Playground Games might launch Forza Horizon 6 in the second quarter, with Fable following later in the year, ideally before the much-anticipated GTA 6.
