The anticipation for the “Fallout” TV series has been palpable, and its star, Walton Goggins, has stirred some curiosity with his unique approach to the role. Known for his portrayal of The Ghoul and his pre-nuclear counterpart, Cooper Howard, Goggins has admitted to steering clear of the video games that inspired the series. This decision is rooted in his method acting, as he strives to immerse himself entirely in the show’s Wasteland environment.
Staying True to the Role
Goggins revealed in a recent interview that he intentionally avoids the original “Fallout” games to maintain his belief in the reality of the show’s setting. “No, I haven’t sat down to play the games,” he stated. “And I won’t. I won’t. I won’t play the games. I’m not interested.” His reasoning revolves around not viewing the world from a gamer’s perspective but rather living it through his character. He firmly believes in the existence of The Ghoul and Cooper Howard within this world, which he aims to honor by fully embracing the narrative as presented on set.
In contrast, Ella Purnell, who plays Lucy MacLean, feels differently. She decided to dive into “Fallout 4” before filming, enhancing her experience and enjoyment of the production. Meanwhile, Aaron Moten, portraying Brotherhood of Steel soldier Maximus, plans to complete his work on the series before exploring the games, suggesting the possibility of new entries from Bethesda by then.
Anticipation for More “Fallout”
The buzz around the series also raises questions about future game releases. While the TV series gears up for its second season airing on December 17, fans speculate whether new game content might arrive from Bethesda. Although “The Elder Scrolls 6” is still a ways off, reports hint at potential remakes within the “Fallout” universe.
The upcoming season promises to tackle the complex “Fallout: New Vegas” endings with a “fog of war” narrative style. Excitingly, a third season is already in the works, with filming slated for the coming year.
