Although Bully 2 remains a dream yet to be realized, a passionate group of modders has stepped up to fill the void with a brand-new online mode that promises endless entertainment.
The Modding Marvel: Bully Online
“IT’S HAPPENING!” exclaimed developer SWEGTA in a recent YouTube announcement. The team has unveiled an online mode for Bully, granting players the ability to engage in minigames, roleplay, race, and challenge NPCs in a variety of activities. “It’s a project me and my team have been working on for a very long time,” SWEGTA said, “and it’s finally at a point in development where we can announce it and show it to the public.”
Bully Online utilizes the DSL script loader, a modding plugin that allows expanded possibilities within the game, including the creation of an online mode. An official server for Bully Online will be available soon, offering an exciting playground for fans.
December Launch: What to Expect
In December, supporters of the project on Ko-Fi will gain access to the server, along with sneak peeks and developer insights through videos and screenshots. The server is described as a mix of minigames, free roaming, and role-playing, featuring a “fully fleshed out” inventory system. This allows players to earn in-game currency and spend it on items including housing, weapons, vehicles, and more.
The Future of Bully: An Official Sequel?
As for an official Bully sequel, fans may have to continue waiting. Dan Houser, co-founder of Rockstar Games, explained in a recent interview that Bully 2 did not come to fruition due to “bandwidth issues.” Bully, also known as Canis Canem Edit in certain regions, remains a classic action game where players navigate the life of high school outcast Jimmy.
Bully fans have clamored for a sequel since the late 2000s when it was under development at Rockstar’s New England studio. Although Bully 2 never officially debuted, some of its concepts found life in other Rockstar titles, such as Red Dead Redemption 2.
