Final Fantasy 7 Remake Director Shares Part 3 Progress Update and Almost Resized Cloud’s Iconic Buster Sword

Final Fantasy’s Cloud Strife is known for wielding one of gaming’s most iconic weapons, the Buster Sword. However, the team behind Final Fantasy 7 Remake once considered altering its size for realism before ultimately sticking with the original design.

The Iconic Buster Sword Dilemma

In a recent interview with Guillaume Broche, director of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, revealed that the idea of resizing Cloud’s Buster Sword was considered. He admitted that even though rescaling was on the table, “it was just too iconic” to modify. According to a translation from a Final Fantasy fan account on X/Twitter, Hamaguchi explained, “While we discussed making Cloud’s sword more realistic, it was just too iconic, and changing it would not be accepted by players.”

Hamaguchi emphasized, “In the end, we stayed faithful to the OG. A whole new generation of people fell in love with it, so I think it was the right call.”

Developments on Final Fantasy Remake Part 3

Regarding Final Fantasy Remake Part 3, Hamaguchi shared that the “core game experience is almost complete,” with the team now focused on “refining and polishing.” He expressed his eagerness for players to experience the game soon, although cautioning, “As the director, I feel a very strong sense of the game’s final form. Once we go through this phase properly, we’ll be able to present it in a form we’re satisfied with.”

Interestingly, he hinted that “Highwind” will play a significant role in the upcoming installment. “For the third part, introducing new gameplay experiences and a new scale is key. ‘Highwind’ is certainly an important keyword here,” he teased.

Community and Voice Actor Concerns

Meanwhile, Briana White, the voice of Aerith in Final Fantasy 7, has urged fans to refrain from tagging voice actors in explicit content featuring their characters.
