Fans of the Forza Motorsport series may be disappointed as Turn 10 Studios halts new content development for the beloved racing game. The decision comes after significant layoffs at the studio this summer, shifting the focus to the Forza Horizon series.
The End of New Developments
The latest Forza Motorsport game, released in 2023, aimed to reboot the Xbox sim racing franchise with a promise of years of fresh content. However, mixed reactions to its launch and substantial staff reductions at Turn 10 Studios have curtailed these plans. Reports confirm that the studio will no longer introduce new cars, tracks, features, or regular updates for the game. Despite this, the studio assures that online servers will remain active and special events will continue.
In a statement, Turn 10 Studios expressed their intention to support the game with monthly reintroductions of past Featured Tours and reward cars, ensuring players can enjoy the content anytime.
Shift to Forza Horizon 6
With its resources realigned, Turn 10 Studios is now collaborating with Playground Games on Forza Horizon 6, set to launch in Japan in 2026. As this transition occurs, many speculate about the future of Forza Motorsport amid the layoffs that reportedly affected around 120 employees, according to former staff members.
A Legacy on Pause
Since its debut in 2005, Forza Motorsport has been a cornerstone of Xbox’s gaming lineup, rivaling PlayStation’s Gran Turismo. Over the years, the franchise has released seven sequels across all Xbox console generations. Although its future is uncertain, Xbox gaming boss Phil Spencer has hinted that the series is not entirely off the table, suggesting that focus may return to it in time.
The latest installment received an 8/10 review, praised for its multiplayer capabilities and improved handling, despite some criticism of its RPG-inspired upgrade system.
