Free Elder Scrolls Online Expansion Launches April 2, 2026: Experience Season Zero – Dawn and Dusk Across All Platforms

The Elder Scrolls Online is gearing up for a transformative shift that promises to reshape how players experience the game. ZeniMax Online Studios announced the official launch of the new seasonal model for the game, set to debut on April 2, 2026, with “Season Zero: Dawn and Dusk.” This marks the end of the transitional period that began with the “Seasons of the Worm Cult” in 2025, as the game moves away from the expansion-like Chapter model to a more dynamic seasonal approach.

A New Era with Season Zero

In a bold move, Update 49 will see Elder Scrolls Online’s updates being released simultaneously for both PC and consoles, paving the way for future cross-play features. This update signifies a commitment to creating a more unified player experience. All new content introduced with Season Zero will be free, removing barriers for players wishing to explore new Trials or dungeons with friends. Each season will span three months and introduce innovative features like the Tamriel Tome, a battle pass system offering rewards through seasonal challenges.

Exciting Gameplay Additions and Improvements

Game Director Nick Giacomini highlighted that the seasonal model allows the team to react more swiftly to player feedback, offering a more engaging and rewarding experience. The Gold Coast Bazaar will provide an in-game store for earnable rewards, answering a long-standing community request. Another significant change is the replacement of Event Tickets with Trade Bars, earned through gameplay and not purchasable, removing caps on how many players can hold.

Season Zero will also feature the new Event Zone: Night Market, a challenging PvE zone in Fargrave, encouraging organic player group-ups and competition among factions. Future seasons promise even more, with new Trials, Solo Dungeons, and dynamic world events, ensuring a fresh and varied experience every quarter.

Enhancements and Future Developments

The roadmap for Elder Scrolls Online includes numerous quality-of-life improvements starting March 9, 2026, with Update 49. Players can look forward to free skill respecs, account-wide outfit slots, and increased housing furnishing limits, among other enhancements. Meanwhile, visual and combat improvements will begin with the Dragonknight class, aiming to refine class identities and combat dynamics.

Looking beyond, the development team is making significant investments in PvP content and exploring new features like Guild Mail and Guild Housing. With these changes, the future of Elder Scrolls Online looks vibrant and full of potential, promising an evolving and engaging universe for its community.
