Transition to AMDGPU for Older GPUs
Linux continues to support older AMD GPUs with new kernel patches that propose a significant transition. Reports suggest that Timur Kristóf, from Valve’s Linux graphics driver team, has introduced patches that aim to integrate GCN 1.1 GPUs under the AMDGPU open-source kernel graphics driver module by default. This move will replace the older Radeon driver, historically used for these GPUs, with the more feature-rich AMDGPU driver.
Advantages of Adopting AMDGPU
