G2 Esports Crowned VCT Americas Stage 1 Champions

G2 Esports has emerged victorious in the VCT Americas Stage 1 tournament, defeating Sentinels 3-1 in the Grand Final held yesterday. This championship win secures G2 both 10 VCT Points and a direct Playoffs seed for the upcoming Masters Toronto event scheduled for June.

Tournament Overview and Performance

The VCT Americas Stage 1 represented the second regional tier-one competition in the 2025 VALORANT Champions Tour season, following the VCT Kickoff and Masters Bangkok. Running from March 21st to May 4th, the tournament featured 12 teams from across the Americas region.

G2 Esports demonstrated their dominance early in the competition, winning all five matches in the Omega Group during the Group Stage. This perfect record earned them a direct placement into the Playoffs Upper Bracket Semifinals.

Their undefeated streak came to a temporary halt when they suffered their only loss of Stage 1 against Sentinels with a 2-1 result, which pushed them into the lower bracket. However, G2 showed remarkable resilience by defeating Evil Geniuses (2-1) and MIBR (3-1) to earn their spot in the Grand Final.

Grand Final Showdown

The best-of-five Grand Final saw G2 facing Sentinels in a rematch. Although all maps were closely contested, G2 demonstrated their ability to learn from previous defeats. The team secured victories on Haven (13-9), Split (13-9), and finally Ascent (13-10). Sentinels managed to win only the third map, Pearl (10-13).

Twenty-year-old Trent ‘trent’ Cairns was named Match MVP for his outstanding performance. Following the victory, he expressed his feelings on social media, stating that they were now Stage 1 Champions and back-to-back domestic champions. He conveyed pride in his team and acknowledged the hard work they put in during this split, while also thanking his teammates for everything they had been through together.

Masters Toronto Qualification

With VCT Americas Stage 1 now concluded, G2 Esports, Sentinels, and third-place finisher MIBR have earned spots among the 12 international teams that will compete at Masters Toronto. This second global tournament of the 2025 VCT calendar will run from June 7th to 22nd and features a substantial $1 million (approximately £769,171) prize pool.

As back-to-back VCT Americas champions, G2 has already accumulated 16 VCT Americas Points. They currently lead the Americas region in this crucial ranking, ahead of Sentinels with nine points and MIBR with seven points.

Following Stage 2 in July, the two teams from each region with the highest point totals may directly qualify for the season-ending VALORANT Champions tournament.
