G2 Hel Breaks Barriers with Historic Promotion to Liga Nexo

G2 Hel, the all-female League of Legends team under G2 Esports, has achieved a groundbreaking milestone by securing promotion to the Liga Nexo. Their victory in the promotion tournament cements their place in the second division of the European Regional League, making them the first women’s team to reach this level.

The decisive match saw G2 Hel overcome Spanish rivals Dream Makers in a hard-fought 3-2 series. After initially falling behind, the team staged an impressive comeback, winning the final two games to claim their spot in the higher division. Dream Makers, who finished eighth in Liga Nexo’s Split 2, will now drop to the third division.

A Turning Point for Female Representation in Esports

This promotion represents a major step forward for women in competitive League of Legends. While G2 Hel previously competed in the NLC’s second division, they had not earned their place through a promotion tournament. Their previous run ended in relegation after a tough 2-16 record in the Spring Split.

The team’s 2025 roster features two key changes from last year. Top laner Olivia ‘Lizia’ Calistus and mid laner Manon ‘Sha’ Legaignoux were replaced by Zeniv, formerly of NNO’s sister team, and Rym ‘rym’ Salloum, who played for Solary Academy in France’s domestic leagues.

What’s Next for G2 Hel?

With their promotion secured, G2 Hel is set to compete in Liga Nexo’s upcoming Split 3, though the exact start date remains unconfirmed. Additionally, the team is expected to participate in the 2025 Equal Esports Cup, beginning July 1st.

This achievement highlights the growing impact of women in esports, following similar milestones in other titles where female players have broken into tier-two and even tier-one competitions. G2 Hel’s success paves the way for more opportunities in high-level League of Legends play.
