Three Fields Entertainment, founded by former Burnout developers, has been striving to keep its doors open despite recent challenges. Their open-world sandbox racing game, Wreckreation, launched in October but failed to meet commercial expectations. Players cited numerous technical issues and a lack of content at launch as contributing factors to its underperformance. In response to these difficulties, the studio has taken a bold step to secure its future.
Wreckreation’s Unsteady Start
The debut of Wreckreation was met with disappointment, resulting in financial strain for Three Fields Entertainment. CEO Fiona Sperry expressed pride in her team’s efforts but acknowledged the stark reality they face. The studio has had to self-fund much of the year’s developments and post-launch content without sufficient support from their publisher. As a result, the entire staff is at risk of redundancy if conditions don’t improve.
Seeking Support Through Patreon
In a bid to rally support, Three Fields Entertainment has launched a Patreon page. This initiative was in response to community inquiries on how to aid the studio. Their announcement, shared on X (formerly Twitter), outlines different tiers of support with varied rewards for backers. The Patreon page emphasizes that financial assistance is crucial to maintain their ten-person team and continue updates for Wreckreation in the coming months.
The Road Ahead
Three Fields Entertainment has been transparent about its financial needs, highlighting a requirement of $65,000 monthly to remain operational. While they’re actively seeking new partnerships and pitching projects for additional funding, the uncertainty in the gaming and tech industries looms large. Layoffs and closures are prevalent, but there is hope that Three Fields Entertainment’s proactive approach will lead to a more positive outcome for their team.
