Gears of War: E-Day Set for 2026 Release Despite Xbox Games Showcase Absence

Even though it was absent from the Xbox Games showcase, Gears of War: E-Day is scheduled for 2026.

Gamers who were hoping to see Gears of War: E-Day at the Xbox Games Showcase 2025 have not gotten any news since the official announcement. The absence of the blockbuster gaming franchise was conspicuous in the presentation. Similarly, forza, halo, and the upcoming fable reboot were also notably missing.

Although they have been announced for some period of time now, there are still some uncertain factors about the upcoming Xbox exclusives. However, Xbox head Phil Spencer provided some good reassurance. He has confirmed that Gears of War: E-Day is coming in 2026. He also confirmed that the next Forza will be coming in 2026 as well while the Xbox celebrates its 25th anniversary.

A Return to Series Origins

The Coalition first unveiled this new Gears of War title during the Xbox Games Showcase 2024. E-Day is a prequel that takes place 14 years before the first Gears of War game. The game will reveal the backstory of Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago, as John DiMiaggio and Carlos Ferro reprise their roles.

Mike Crump, the head of the coalition studio, emphasized that Gears of War: E-Day is not just another sequel. According to him, the project brings us back to the essence of what makes Gears of War, Gears of War and what makes it special. The devs want to get to that feeling that made this franchise the brand that it was.

Development Partnership Expands

This year, Microsoft proclaimed that People Can Fly would join the development effort as a co-developer besides The Coalition. People Can Fly adds valuable work experience to the project, having previously worked on both Bulletstorm and Gears of War: Judgment.

Bridge Content for Waiting Fans

With E-Day just around the corner, series fans have Gears of War: Reloaded to hold us over. Released on August 26 for PC and Xbox Series X/S, this complete remake of the first title of the franchise To note, this remaster will also debut on PS5 – the first mainline Gears game to release on Sony’s console.

During the Xbox Games Showcase, Spencer hinted towards future Halo developments which may or may not include a remake of the series first entry, although nothing has been confirmed yet.
