Ghost of Yotei’s U.S. Launch Deemed Acceptable, Says Analyst, But the Real Challenge Lies Ahead

The highly anticipated release of Ghost of Yotei has matched the sales success of its predecessor, Ghost of Tsushima, according to sales analysts. Launched exclusively on PlayStation 5 on October 2, 2025, this sequel has sparked interest among fans and analysts alike, though Sony has not yet disclosed global sales figures.

Analyzing Sales Performance

Reports suggest that regional data provides insights into the game’s performance, despite the absence of concrete figures. Mat Piscatella of Circana shared insights on social media, describing the launch of Sucker Punch’s sequel as “perfectly fine… Not amazing, not bad.” This reflects a comparison to Ghost of Tsushima, which was a massive success for Sony when it hit PlayStation 4 during the July 2020 lockdowns.

In terms of revenue, Ghost of Yotei has performed on par with Ghost of Tsushima. Although U.S. launch week unit sales dropped slightly compared to its predecessor, dollar sales increased by a similar percentage due to a 12% higher average price per unit. Ultimately, while unit sales were down, the financial outcome was essentially flat.

Piscatella highlighted the importance of context in this comparison, noting that the PS4’s installed base during Ghost of Tsushima’s launch was notably larger due to the circumstances of 2020.

Future Outlook for Ghost of Yotei

The key challenge for Ghost of Yotei is sustaining its momentum in the coming months. With Ghost of Tsushima having sold over 13 million copies by September 2024, Ghost of Yotei has significant benchmarks to meet. In Europe, sales have mirrored those in the U.S., and it has emerged as the biggest first-party PlayStation launch since Spider-Man 2 in October 2023, surpassing even the record-breaking Helldivers 2.

What Lies Ahead for Sucker Punch

Looking forward, Sucker Punch will determine its next steps after the anticipated release of the multiplayer add-on Ghost of Yotei: Legends in 2026. Studio co-founder and head Brian Fleming indicated in an interview that the studio remains focused on single-project development, avoiding the juggling of multiple games.

While fans eagerly await new developments, guides and reviews are available, offering insights into gameplay strategies, skills, and secrets to master Ghost of Yotei.
