Microsoft has revealed the next major update for Halo Infinite, introducing one of the most over-the-top and outlandish weapons ever seen in the Halo franchise.
The Mutilator has been unveiled as a formidable new brute force weapon that combines a double-barrel shotgun with a Gravity Hammer attached to its end. This remarkable weapon allows players to fire one shell at a time or utilise the alt-fire option to discharge two rounds simultaneously. According to Microsoft, the Gravity Hammer element ensures that if anything survives the shotgun blasts, the hammer will complete the devastation. The weapon’s impressive capabilities can be viewed in action in the Halo Infinite video demonstration beginning at the 46:50 mark, showcasing its truly devastating power.
Mutilator Madness: A Dedicated Game Mode
To highlight this extraordinary new weapon, Microsoft has developed a dedicated mode called Mutilator Madness. This special variant of the Juggernaut mode pits a team of players against a single, exceptionally powerful opponent.
Furthermore, the Mutilator will be added to standard Halo Infinite maps as a power weapon. Players will also have the option to utilise this weapon in custom matches and in Forge mode for even more creative gameplay possibilities.
Operation: Last Stand Update Brings More Than Just the Mutilator
The Mutilator will join the Halo Infinite arsenal on 6 May as part of the game’s forthcoming Operation: Last Stand update. This update also introduces a 20-tier free Operation Pass enabling players to unlock various new cosmetic items, while a premium 50-tier Operation Pass will be available for purchase, offering additional content.
The Weapons Bench is receiving enhancements as well, allowing players to apply weapon coatings, emblems, charms, and death effects to an expanded range of weapons. Moreover, the Last Stand update reintroduces bouncing bullets, enabling projectiles from the S7 sniper rifle and the Flexfire sniper rifle to ricochet off hard surfaces, adding another layer of danger to the battlefield.
Additionally, the update includes a nerf to the Banshee vehicle by increasing the cooldown time for its fuel rod cannon and reducing the velocity of its projectiles. Microsoft explained that these adjustments aim to ensure a more balanced experience for all players, while noting that the ramming speed remains unchanged.
Beyond these ongoing updates for Halo Infinite, Microsoft is developing entirely new Halo games using Unreal Engine 5. However, these projects are still in early stages, and no new Halo titles have been officially announced yet.
