FromSoftware recently teased improved boss fights for Elden Ring Nightreign this month. However, the gaming world didn’t need confirmation and already knew… A modder was able to extract the enhanced boss content that is already in the game files and make it playable.
On June 3rd, the official Elden Ring social media channels announced that new fights against new Nightlords will come alongside other upcoming features, including the DLC set to release later this year and the new Duo Expeditions. While not much was known about the details of this mod, it sure got a lot of the mod community’s attention.
Discovering the Hidden Boss Data
Modder TerraMag wanted to find some hidden stuff in Nightreign’s own code. By looking through the files associated with the game, TerraMag found the improved data for the bosses and made a working modification to allow playing through these fights early.
The modder said these versions are works-in-progress, not finished products. The unfinished fights offer a precious window into FromSoftware’s ideas for developing the Nightreign experience.
Third Phases and New Challenges
TerraMag video demos show off numerous major upgrades hitting some well known Nightlords. In the enhanced versions, major bosses like Adel, Libra, and Caligo get third phases to change how you fight them.
The newer phases have new mechanics, a new visual look and a new set of attack patterns for the Nightfarer. FromSoftware seems to be changing the old battles completely rather than just buffing their HP or damage with the expanded movesets.
Impact on the Nightreign Community
For players who have already beaten the roster of eight current Nightlord bosses, this will bring some of the challenge Nightreign is known for back to these fights. The challenge of facing more powerful forms of our old foes gives a new twist for players to overcome.
The modified material is both a sneak peek and a trial of what is about to come. Players can get to know the new mechanics before the launch, but they should note that the final implementations may differ greatly from these versions.
Looking Ahead to Official Release
While TerraMag’s mod showcases Nightreign boss encounters we can expect in the future, the real enhanced fights are set to drop sometime this month. FromSoftware has stuck to its guns and kept its release dates and features mostly secret.
Nightreign is adding more and more content and boss fights are just one. With the upcoming DLC and Duo Expeditions feature, these new additions are signs that FromSoftware wants Nightreign to be more than just a launch.
The Nightreign modding community has once more shown their superb skills with a learned interior and uncovered the secret content within the game. While we wait for the official bosses to be reskinned, we can appreciate some entertainment and preparation from TerraMag in the ever-evolving Lands.
