Hideo Kojima Uncertain About New Horror Game OD’s Success, Rethinks Game Development From Scratch

Hideo Kojima, the mastermind behind iconic games like Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding, is pushing boundaries once again with his upcoming horror project, OD. This game presents unique challenges, deviating significantly from his previous creations by requiring a complete overhaul in development approach.

The Evolution of Horror in Kojima’s World

OD is not Kojima’s first foray into horror. He previously shook the gaming world with P.T., a “Playable Trailer” that served as a tantalizing preview for the ill-fated Silent Hills. Although Silent Hills never came to pass due to its cancellation in 2015, P.T. remains a chilling benchmark in horror gaming. The new game OD seems to echo the haunting spirit of P.T., with its latest trailer suggesting a spine-tingling experience that might share links to the previous project.

The game boasts an intriguing cast, including Sophia Lillis from Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, Udo Kier from Hunters, and Hunter Schafer from Euphoria. The trailer teases these actors in a creepy setting, promising an atmosphere thick with suspense and mystery.

Kojima’s Bold New Experiment

In a recent discussion with ananweb, as translated by Automaton, Kojima expressed uncertainty about OD’s success but hinted at hidden clues within the trailer. He stated, “We’ve packed the trailer full of hints, so if you keep thinking about it, you might figure it out.”

Standing out from his earlier works, OD aims to revolutionize gaming by altering its service model fundamentally. This fresh approach means, unlike his stealth and delivery games, OD will break new ground in game design, making its development particularly challenging.

A Missed Opportunity with The Matrix

In an intriguing tidbit from October, reports suggest that The Wachowskis once reached out to Hideo Kojima to create a Matrix video game. However, it appears that Konami, the publisher, declined the proposal. Kojima later expressed surprise at this revelation, as he was reportedly unaware of such discussions.
