How to Defeat the Mentalist Alien in REPO

In the unsettling world of REPO, danger lurks in every shadow—whether it’s deceptively cute creatures with sinister powers or otherworldly horrors drifting through the halls. One of the most unusual enemies players encounter is the Mentalist, a psychic alien with a terrifying ability to disrupt your team’s run. Understanding how it works and how to take it down can mean the difference between surviving and restarting.

Understanding the Mentalist’s Behavior

The Mentalist roams the map silently, using psychic abilities to catch players off guard. Despite its lack of hearing and poor vision, it’s far from harmless. As long as players stay quiet and avoid triggering its presence, it’s usually possible to remain hidden until it passes.

But once the Mentalist senses movement nearby, it activates a telekinetic field. This ability causes nearby players and loose objects to levitate for several seconds before violently slamming them to the ground—dealing a harsh 50 damage hit. What makes it more dangerous is its mobility; the Mentalist can teleport freely, flipping out of sight and reappearing anywhere on the map with no warning. This makes every encounter unpredictable and tense.

Strategies to Eliminate the Mentalist

Fortunately, despite its mind-bending powers, the Mentalist isn’t particularly tough. With just 150 health points, it’s far weaker than larger enemies like the Trudge or the Robe. Almost any weapon will do—ranged or melee—as long as it deals consistent damage.

However, players need to be cautious. Getting too close before it activates its psychic field is a risky move. A smarter tactic is to attack just after it finishes an ability, giving you a short window to land hits while staying safe from retaliation.

How to Rescue a Teammate Trapped by the Mentalist

If a teammate gets caught in the Mentalist’s levitation trap, there’s a narrow chance to save them. By stepping in quickly and grabbing them, it’s possible to pull them out of the gravity field before the slam. This maneuver works best for characters equipped with Range Upgrades, reducing the risk of also getting caught in the blast.

It’s important to approach with caution—missteps can drag you both into danger. But done right, it’s a powerful way to keep your team alive and avoid unnecessary restarts.
