While wandering the vast lands of Cyrodiil on your own can be an exciting experience, joining one or more of the game’s prominent guilds adds a richer layer of adventure and purpose. Oblivion Remastered offers five major guilds, each with unique questlines and opportunities to influence their direction. However, locating these guilds amidst the sprawling world can be tricky—so here’s a detailed guide to help you find and join every faction.
Major Guilds and Minor Factions Overview
The game features five central guilds that players can join:
- Arena
- Fighters Guild
- Mages Guild
- Thieves Guild
- Dark Brotherhood
In addition to these, several minor factions are scattered throughout Cyrodiil. These groups often require completing a simple quest to join and may grant minor benefits, though their impact is mostly symbolic. Examples include the Blackwood Company, The Blades, Knights of the Nine, Order of the Dragon, and the Order of the Virtuous Blood.
The Arena: a Gateway to Fame and Fortune
The Arena stands out as one of the easiest and most profitable factions to join. Right after exiting the sewer in the game’s prologue, players should head uphill into the Imperial City Market District and then proceed to the Arena District, where the Arena itself is located immediately to the left.
To officially join, descend to the Bloodworks and find Owyn, a no-nonsense Redguard who handles new recruits. Signing up grants you a choice between Heavy or Light Raiment, and from there, you’ll climb nine ranks—from Pit Dog to Grand Champion—earning fame and gold with every victory.
Fighters Guild: Mercenary Work for the Brave
If wielding heavy armor and swordplay is your style, the Fighters Guild offers a rewarding path. This guild hires mercenaries to tackle local threats like goblins and rats, explore dangerous dungeons, and compete against rival mercenary groups. Completing quests here rewards players with gold, fame, and occasionally rare items.
To join, visit any Fighters Guild hall in these cities and speak to the respective guild leader:
- Anvil (Azzan)
- Cheydinhal (Burz gro-Khash)
- Chorrol (Vilena Donton)

Mages Guild: Master the Arcane Arts
For those who prefer spellcasting, the Mages Guild is the perfect fit. Progressing through ranks from Associate to Arch-Mage, players can eventually lead the entire guild. The journey begins by visiting the guild halls located in Anvil, Bravil, Bruma, Cheydinhal, Chorrol, Leyawiin, and Skingrad.
Each guild hall leader assigns a unique task. Completing all seven tasks grants access to the Arcane University in the Imperial City. There, speaking with Raminus Polus confirms your membership and advances your magical career.
Thieves Guild: a Shadowy Path to Power
Unlike other guilds, joining the Thieves Guild requires more effort and stealth. There are three main ways to gain entry:
- Get arrested by stealing, fighting, or trespassing until a Thieves Guild member contacts you in prison with an offer.
- In the Imperial City Waterfront District, talk to beggars and guards who mention The Gray Fox, leading to a secret midnight meeting.
- In Bravil, seek out City-Swimmer, a homeless Argonian who can guide you to the guild after discussing The Gray Fox.
All paths lead to a clandestine midnight meeting at the Garden of Dareloth in the Imperial City Waterfront district, where the opportunity to join the guild awaits.

Dark Brotherhood: Embrace the Shadows
The Dark Brotherhood is arguably the easiest faction to join—though it demands a darker commitment. After assassinating your first innocent victim, a mysterious note arrives, indicating your actions have caught the attention of unknown forces. Once you rest in a safe place, such as an inn room, you’ll encounter Lucien Lachance, the Brotherhood’s Speaker.
He offers guidance on joining their deadly ranks, setting you on a path filled with stealthy contracts and sinister deeds.
