The inaugural IEM Kraków event is scheduled to run from January 27 through February 8, 2026, marking a significant change in the esports calendar.

Organized by ESL and Intel, IEM boasts a rich history spanning nearly two decades. Initially held in Hannover, Germany, from 2007 to 2012, the event found a long-term home in Katowice beginning in 2013. Over the years, IEM has expanded its footprint globally, hosting major Counter-Strike tournaments in cities such as Cologne, Melbourne, Rio de Janeiro, Dallas, and Chengdu.
The most recent IEM Katowice event, held in January 2025, drew nearly 1.3 million viewers as Team Vitality claimed the majority of the $1 million prize pool, underscoring the tournament’s massive appeal among Counter-Strike 2 fans.
Impact of the Move on the Community and Host Cities
The transition to Kraków is expected to have far-reaching effects on both the Counter-Strike community and the new host city. Katowice has enjoyed a surge in tourism and global recognition during IEM events. For instance, the 2019 IEM Katowice reportedly generated an economic impact exceeding £14 million, significantly benefiting the local economy.
This relocation comes as part of a multi-year agreement between ESL FACEIT Group (EFG) and the city of Kraków, securing IEM Kraków as a recurring highlight in the annual Counter-Strike esports calendar. The deal also sheds light on the sudden cancellation of PGL’s planned Kraków event in January 2027, which was called off shortly after this announcement.

What to Expect at IEM Kraków 2026
The upcoming IEM Kraków will feature 24 teams competing for a $1.25 million prize pool. Six teams will advance to the playoffs, aiming to claim the first-ever IEM Kraków trophy. The final three days of the tournament will be held at the Tauron Arena, a prominent venue in the city.
Following the event, fans will have the chance to see the trophy up close at Galeria Krakowska from May 30 to June 2. Starting June 8, the trophy will be displayed at Kraków City Hall for a two-week period, allowing the local community and visitors to celebrate this milestone in esports history.
