Insider Reveals Forza Horizon 6 Aiming for Early 2026 Release

The Tokyo Game Show 2025 was buzzing with excitement as one of the standout announcements was the much-anticipated return of the open-world racing phenomenon, Forza Horizon 6. Set to make its grand entrance on PC and Xbox consoles next year, this installment has enthusiasts revved up with its new and thrilling Japan setting.

A Shift in Launch Timelines

Traditionally, Forza Horizon games have graced the gaming world between September and November. However, there’s speculation that Forza Horizon 6 might break this pattern, with UK developer Playground Games eyeing a release in the first half of 2026. This shift comes as a strategic move, especially in light of the much-delayed arrival of Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto VI, now expected in November 2026. Given the massive shadow GTA VI casts, many developers are keen to avoid overlapping launches.

Despite the change in timing, Forza Horizon’s fall releases have been highly successful. For instance, Forza Horizon 5 boasted over 40 million players by mid-2024, even making significant waves on the PlayStation 5 by outselling some of Sony’s own titles for a period.

Exciting New Features and Environments

Forza Horizon 6 promises an exciting map constructed around three distinct regions: Tokyo’s bustling cityscape, picturesque coastal zones, and the challenging mountain tōge roads. The design focuses on density and verticality, particularly in Tokyo, drawing inspiration from previous expansions. The map incorporates a diverse driving experience, including urban street races and thrilling mountain drifts.

Players can anticipate a campaign that mirrors the original Forza Horizon, where progression is earned through gameplay, introducing a wider array of Japanese-inspired vehicles like kei cars and vans. The open world is set to dazzle with its stunning environments and technical advancements in game design.

Though currently announced for PC and Xbox Series S and X, a PlayStation 5 version is expected, following the success of its predecessor on the platform. Whether it arrives late in 2026 or in 2027 remains to be seen, as more updates will be shared as they emerge.

Forza Horizon 6 is set to break new ground with its release in Japan, offering a fresh map and gameplay innovations that promise to captivate racing fans.
