Sapporo, Japan has been confirmed as the venue of the Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS)’s world championships in 2026 and 2027. The city has signed an agreement to host the season-ending tournaments at the Daiwa House PREMIST DOME – continuing to build from the Year 4 Championship held in January 2025 which showcased Sapporo’s capabilities with record-breaking success.
The Japan hosting of the Year 4 Championship will see the game Apex Legends set a new ALGS record. Over 34,000 fans from all over the world were present at the venue making it the highest attended event in the history of the series. Sapporo has become a vital site for the battle royale’s competitive scene thanks to the overwhelming enthusiasm from its Japanese fans.

The deal “shows the growing popularity of competitive gaming in the Asia-Pacific region, according to EA, the publisher of Apex Legends. The arrangement also reaffirms EA’s commitment to producing unforgettable esports events in person. According to Head of Esports Monica Dinsmore at EA, the fan enthusiasm in Sapporo is unmatched. Most importantly, the effort is being put in by EA to make those community experiences showcase the best players in the world.
Asia’s Growing Esports Scene
The decision to keep the ALGS in Japan is in keeping with a growing trend. Major esports events have all begun venturing out into Asia, whether it be Japan, China or South Korea. Recent announcements are a CSGO tournament in Hong Kong and a VCT Game Changers Championship in Seoul South Korea. The developments indicate that the region will grow in popularity in e-sports.
