Katamari Creator’s New Game Features T-Posed Teen in “Touching Yet Stupid” Adventure

The innovative mind behind Katamari Damacy, Keita Takahashi, is preparing to launch a new game that embraces both absurdity and emotion. “To a T” follows the journey of a teenager permanently locked in a T-pose, the default pose used in 3D modeling that occasionally appears when game characters glitch.

Embracing Simplicity and Joy

In “To a T,” players help a character literally named “Teenager” navigate everyday life whilst permanently stuck with arms outstretched. Takahashi explained during an interview at FGS Live from Gamescom LATAM that he particularly enjoys moments of deliberate simplicity in the game such as when Teen brushes their teeth. He described this scene as a moment he particularly appreciates for its simplicity, stating that it involves no clever game design or complex mechanics – merely pressing a button to spit water.

Unlike his previous works which prioritised interactive gameplay, Takahashi revealed that To a T focuses more on delivering “joy” and making players “smile and laugh”. The game apparently includes a robot character as well, though details about its role remain limited.

An Emotional Yet Ridiculous Finale

Takahashi expressed particular enthusiasm for players to experience the game’s conclusion. He described the final moment as simultaneously “very touching, and also very stupid,” suggesting an emotional payoff that still maintains the game’s quirky essence.

“To a T” launches on 28 May and will be available on Steam, Xbox, and PS5. The game’s recent trailer features a particularly catchy tune about cooking being “amazing” that seems to have already captured attention.
