Konami’s MGS Producer Calls Metal Gear Solid 4 Remake ‘Quite a Challenge’

The world of Metal Gear is buzzing with anticipation as producer Noriaki Okamura shares insights on the franchise’s future. Following the excitement of the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, fans are eager to know what’s next. Recent discussions have provided a glimpse into potential directions for the iconic series.

Exploring New Frontiers for Metal Gear

“Right now, we’re still thinking about what to make next,” Okamura reveals. The success of MGS Delta has opened doors for new players, and there’s a strong desire to continue the series. The possibilities are endless, with options ranging from remakes to entirely new games. “The Metal Gear series is part of videogame history, spanning pixel art to cinematic presentation,” he notes, highlighting the unique approach needed for each installment. “We won’t apply the methodology used to make the recent MGS Delta to all other games in the series — rather we intend to find the best approach for each specific game.”

Challenges in Reviving a Classic

Okamura also shed light on the hurdles faced while remaking Metal Gear Solid 3, noting the reorganization of the Konami team and how they ultimately achieved a quality product that honors the original. “Most of the original staff members had left and the team had been reorganized, however we gathered people together and finally arrived at the point where we could make MGS Delta,” he explained. The prospect of a Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots remake appears daunting due to its unique coding adapted to the hardware of its time. “It seems like it would be quite a challenge to bring that into the present day,” Okamura admits.

What’s Next for Metal Gear Solid 4?

The anticipation is high for a potential remastered release of 2008’s Metal Gear Solid 4, which remains a PlayStation 3 exclusive. Reports suggest a remastered port might be part of the upcoming Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2, although Konami has not yet confirmed the lineup. Okamura’s remarks about MGS4’s unique code might hint at the delay in Volume 2’s release. Previously, Okamura mentioned that the team is being meticulous with Volume 2 to avoid the performance issues experienced during Volume 1’s launch: “we’re going to do everything we can not to repeat that, but we just have to ask for everyone to give us time.”
