Exploring Game Modes

The classic game mode in League of Legends is played on Summoner’s Rift, a 5v5 map with three main lanes Top, Mid and Bottom, connected by dense Jungle. Players are either located at the bottom (blue side) or top (purple side) of the map. A river separates the two sides. Players engage in a fierce battle in the river for control of neutral monsters, Dragon and Baron. Dragon and Baron give a lot of team gold and buff.  Riot Games is making Summoner’s Rift more stylized to better run on PCs with lower specs.

Players can also play on the Twisted Treeline which has a smaller 3v3 map apart from Summoner’s Rift. This map has a Vilemaw, a neutral monster which grants buffs similar to Baron’s. Twisted Treeline has unique things like altars that give you buffs while captured. You can challenge these altars after 2:30 mins.

Another mode with a different map to play with new objectives. Users cooperate on different control points on a circular battlefield that has jungle paths on the outer ring. Even 5v5, this mode requires different ways of winning compared to the Summoner’s Rift.

The ARAM mode, also known as All Random All Mid, is a mode played on a one-lane map. It is available on Howling Abyss and Proving Grounds. In ARAM, champions are chosen randomly, and players have to change their strategy considerably.

To celebrate special events, Riot Games frequently releases limited-time game modes. One example is Ultra Rapid Fire (U.R.F), released on April fools’ Day, which had drastically reduced cooldowns, no champion resources, and reduced item cooldowns. Due to its extreme popularity, U.R.F. was extended another week. Similarly, these modes are often very well liked.

Improving Skills with Bot Matches

League of Legends lets you play against computers, which is a great way for new players to get started! Gameplay in bot matches helps players understand all the game mechanics. Plus, since winning isn’t the goal, they are less stressful. Players can tweak the number of AI opponents in such matches.

When the players log in for the first time, they come to the main page that shows recent updates, a chat window, links to player profile & store and play button. New users are asked to play a tutorial that teaches basic movement and strategy. In this first game, a single player faces a bot team on Summoner’s Rift to learn the importance of map awareness.

Once you’ve finished the tutorial by destroying some enemy turrets and the nexus, now you’re ready to play real games. The best first step is to keep playing Player vs. AI games on the beginner setting until you master the skills of your chosen character. It is advised to choose a character that is already bought using Influence Points (IP) earned from previous fights. A player should tackle Intermediate levels after they have a grasp of at least one champion.

As players gain confidence and skill, they can play Player vs. Player matches.
