Mafia: The Old Country Offers Gritty Storytelling Without Demanding Endless Hours

The long-anticipated Mafia: The Old Country officially arrives on August 8, 2025. Set to release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, the game continues the iconic Mafia franchise with a strong emphasis on cinematic storytelling and historical authenticity.

A New Approach With Focused Narrative and Stealth Mechanics

The game, developed by Hangar 13, introduces refined combat and stealth features, showcased in its latest trailer. Set in early 1900s Sicily, the game tells the origin story of Enzo Favara, a young man climbing the ranks of Don Torrisi’s criminal empire. Hangar 13’s president described the title as a concentrated, linear adventure that blends brutal storytelling with the familiar Mafia gameplay fans recognize.

The vision behind this project leans into a deep, grounded narrative, immersing players in a period-accurate environment. This focus is deliberate—trading open-world sprawl for a tightly woven plot that delivers emotional weight and dramatic intensity.

Shorter Campaign, No Multiplayer—All About the Story

Unlike many modern releases, Mafia: The Old Country does not include multiplayer content. Instead, the entire experience is built around its single-player campaign. This design choice aligns with the publisher’s desire to provide a compelling yet time-efficient experience.

2K’s president noted that there’s a growing audience for story-rich titles that don’t require massive time commitments. This philosophy helped shape the project into a linear, high-quality narrative offering that can complement longer, more time-intensive games already on the market.

Edition Breakdown and Pricing

Mafia: The Old Country will be available in two editions:

  • Standard Edition – Priced at $49.99, this version includes the full base game and is available on all supported platforms.
  • Deluxe Edition – At $59.99, this version enhances the core game with exclusive content:
    • Padrino Pack – Includes themed weapons, a charm, outfit, limousine, knife, and a horse with accessories.
    • Gatto Nero Pack – Adds another set of bonus items including a unique pistol, racing outfit, charm, and a race car.
    • Additional digital extras include the game’s original soundtrack and an artbook featuring concept art and insights from developers.

Both versions are open for pre-orders now. Those who pre-order either edition will also receive the Soldato Pack, which includes exclusive in-game items like a knife, outfit, charm, horse, and related accessories.

Designed as a Cinematic Experience, Not an Open World

Earlier in the game’s development cycle, the team addressed potential comparisons to open-world giants like Grand Theft Auto. Developers emphasized that Mafia: The Old Country leans much closer to the structure and tone of Mafia 1 and 2 rather than the more expansive Mafia 3.

They clarified that while players will explore richly detailed environments, such as horse rides through Sicilian countrysides or car chases in dusty towns, the gameplay structure remains firmly linear. The goal is to deliver a gripping, film-like experience rather than a sprawling sandbox.
