One of the most critically praised titles of 2025, Blue Prince, has finally addressed a severe issue that plagued its PlayStation 5 version. A newly released update eliminates a longstanding save file corruption bug that had disrupted gameplay for countless users. The patch also introduces balancing adjustments, notably fixing an exploit related to item duplication.
The studio behind the game, Dogubomb, issued a detailed explanation regarding the bug. According to developer Tonda Ros, the issue stemmed from duplicated save data, which prevented new information from being correctly stored. This technical glitch often trapped players at a fixed in-game day, halting further progress. Ros stated via a Steam post that the underlying cause has been fully resolved, enabling players to save and advance through the game without further disruptions.
Game Mechanics and the Rogue Mansion Mystery
In Blue Prince, players navigate a mysterious mansion, progressively revealing rooms by selecting from an expanding deck of cards each new in-game day. The main objective centers around finding the elusive 46th room. This roguelite structure combines intricate puzzle-solving with rich narrative elements, offering deep lore and discovery for those willing to delve into its labyrinthine layout.
Dedicated players often spend upward of 100 hours trying to uncover all secrets the game has to offer. However, many on PS5 reported devastating progress loss between day 90 and 150, with some encountering a hard stop on day 117. Reports of such incidents filled the game’s subreddit, where affected players expressed their frustration and confusion.
Patch Preserves Most Progress, With Some Limitations
Thankfully, for those who did not delete or overwrite their save files, the patch should restore functionality. Ros mentioned that their team collaborated closely with Sony to prevent save file loss. While progress lost during the bug’s rollback event cannot be recovered, most players should be able to resume from the moment the issue occurred, specifically returning to the Mount Holly checkpoint.
Despite the fix, the disruption was disheartening for many. The game’s immersive structure makes it challenging to re-enter after a prolonged break, due to its complex mechanics and evolving narrative threads.
Additional Fixes and Exploit Adjustments
Besides the major save bug fix, today’s update addresses several gameplay exploits. Changes include a patch to the Guest Bedroom loophole, which previously allowed players to accumulate items unfairly, and a modification to the Nurse Station perk that granted excessive movement opportunities. These changes ensure a more balanced gameplay experience while maintaining the game’s original challenge.
Although specifics of other changes remain concealed to avoid spoilers, the update clearly marks a major quality-of-life improvement for Blue Prince players on PlayStation 5. With the technical barrier removed, fans can once again immerse themselves in the mansion’s enigmas without fear of losing their hard-earned progress.
