HEROIC has confirmed that Alvaro ‘SunPayus’ Garcia, their main AWPer, and coach Eetu ‘sAw’ Sahan will be leaving the organization to join G2 Esports following the conclusion of the BLAST.tv Austin Major. The move was announced ahead of the tournament due to regulations regarding conflict of interest, ensuring transparency before the major event kicks off.
HEROIC’s Current Standing and Major Preparation
HEROIC currently ranks 15th in the CS2 Valve Regional Standings. The team earned their spot at the BLAST.tv Austin Major by excelling in the European Regional Qualifier. They are set to compete against top-tier teams from June 3rd to 22nd.
In their official statement, HEROIC expressed gratitude toward both SunPayus and sAw, noting that the organization intends to honor their contributions at a later date, but for now, their focus is on giving it their all at the upcoming major. The team also added a playful message about being back in the kitchen and cooking up something exciting, hinting at future roster moves.
G2 Esports Bolsters Its Roster
G2 Esports has been navigating a period of transition. In April, the team’s star AWPer, Ilya ‘m0NESY’ Osipov, departed for Team Falcons following the PGL Bucharest event. To fill the gap, G2 brought in Aleksander ‘hades’ Miśkiewicz on loan from Monte, but his contract is set to expire after the Austin Major.
With SunPayus and sAw joining, G2 is making a strong move to stabilize its lineup for the remainder of the 2025 season.
SunPayus and sAw: Profiles and Achievements
SunPayus joined HEROIC in January 2025 after a period of inactivity with Team Falcons. The Spanish AWPer has been a part of the competitive Counter-Strike scene since 2018. His career highlights include a second-place finish at IEM Masters Cologne and lifting the trophy at IEM Masters Dallas in 2023, both achievements coming under the banner of Finnish esports organization ENCE.
Coach sAw, also previously with ENCE, played a pivotal role in ENCE’s rise to elite status. Beginning as a CS:GO player in 2014, he transitioned to coaching in 2019 and joined HEROIC in December 2023. Under his leadership, HEROIC has maintained a strong presence in major tournaments, despite frequent roster changes. The team secured 7th place at the Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024 and 8th at IEM Masters Dallas. Additionally, sAw guided HEROIC to victory in two A-tier events—the CCT Season 2 Global Finals and the MESA Nomadic Masters Spring—in April and May 2025.
