Malaysia Triumphs in Magic Chess: Go Go’s Historic SEA Games 2025 Debut

The Southeast Asian Games 2025 in Thailand is buzzing with excitement as it welcomes a new contender in the esports arena. Magic Chess: Go Go, a title that captivated global audiences since its release in May, made a significant debut at the event, although it was featured as a showmatch rather than a medal event.

Magic Chess: Go Go Takes Center Stage

In this captivating showmatch, four countries locked horns: Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines. Each nation was represented by two players, competing fiercely across five matches. The average standings determined the ultimate victor, with Malaysia emerging triumphant. Muhamad Arif Bin Baharun’s decisive match victory secured the win for Malaysia. “It was a dream come true to participate in the MCGG at the 33rd SEA Games,” said Arif Bin Baharun, reflecting the sentiments of many esports enthusiasts.

Esports Evolution at the SEA Games

This year’s SEA Games marked the first time an auto-chess title was showcased, expanding the event’s esports offerings, which began in 2019. Although Indonesia claimed second place, and the Thai duo clinched the third, the competition highlighted the growing prestige of esports in the region. Meanwhile, MOONTON, the developer behind Magic Chess: Go Go, is ramping up the game’s competitive scene with the announcement of its first world championship on January 25th during the MLBB’s M7 Carnival.

Exciting Medal Events Ahead

As the SEA Games progress, four games will feature across six medal events, including Arena of Valor, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Free Fire, and FC Online. Separate tournaments for male and female players in MLBB and Arena of Valor promise double the excitement, each awarding two gold medals. Scheduled from December 13th to 19th, the Philippines aims to build on its existing 15-medal tally, while Indonesia targets the top position with its current 13 medals.
